Frequently Asked Questions

What is virtual reality?

Virtual reality allows users to explore video games in an immersive and hyper-realistic format. Because VR is an emerging technology, high-quality setups like ours cost several thousand dollars each, and require significant technological expertise to maintain. DiVRge’s affordable guided virtual experiences exist to make VR accessible for everyone, regardless of their income or experience with technology.

What will my DiVRge experience be like?

When you arrive at DiVRge, our guides will greet you and ensure your waivers have been signed. You will be shown how to operate the virtual reality equipment, and a tutorial will familiarize you with your controllers. Once you have completed the tutorial, you will be free to play whatever games you like.  Guides will be available to help you to select games, clarify rules and controls, set up multiplayer games, and resolve any technical issues that may arise.

What games do you have?

DiVRge currently offers more than 35 different titles, including Google Earth VR, Arizona Sunshine, Job Simulator, and Ritchie’s Plank Experience. Our library includes opportunities to fight, explore, fly, play sports, draw, and more! You can explore our titles section to learn more about specific games, and this blog post recommends popular games for various age groups.  If you want to know about a specific title and can’t find it on our site, please contact us and we will provide further information.

Can more than one person use a single station?

For the best experience, we recommend booking one station per person in order to allow for users to interact in multiplayer games. However, it is also possible to book a single station and take turns using the headset throughout your session.

Can I play games with my friends?

Yes! DiVRge’s catalogue features more than a dozen multiplayer games. Your options range from cooperative adventures for two to free-for-all games that support up to 18 players. You and your friends can play virtual sports, shoot arrows, explore post-apocalyptic wastelands, battle robots, and even fight to the death!

How many games can I play during my visit?

You can play as many games as you like! However, it’s important to remember that most games take a few minutes to set up and learn the rules. Our guides have found that the best experiences generally involve trying three to four games across a one-hour session.

I’m not a gamer. Will I still enjoy VR?

If first-person shooters aren’t your cup of tea, don’t worry! Based on your input, your guide will suggest games or experiences that appeal to you. VR isn’t limited to fighting and sports: you can also fly around cities, explore haunted houses, create 3D art, simulate a job, and more!

Are there any age restrictions?

DiVRge’s dedicated staff will do their best to accommodate and guide individuals of any age. We have had positive experiences with children as young as six, and adults as old as 90. However, children under the age of eight often find it difficult to understand virtual reality, and do not always have the stamina or patience for an hour-long session. Although our guides will do everything in their power to facilitate an engaging experience, they are responsible for attending to several users at a time, and may not be able to spend the entire hour helping your child. If you are booking for a young person, it is important to understand and accept that he or she may not have the maturity to effectively use a VR setup.

Literacy is also a key part of navigating virtual reality. If your child cannot read, we request that you book a weekday visit so that we are able to provide a more in-depth guided experience.

Minors must have a waiver signed by their parent or guardian, which can be filled out online here. Users under 13 must be accompanied by an adult for their orientation, but do not need to be supervised for the full duration of their visit.

Do I have to book in advance?

We highly recommend that you book online or over the phone in order to reserve stations for your selected timeslot. Although we accept walk-ins, booths are available on a first-come-first-served basis, so we cannot guarantee the availability of stations for walk-in customers.

Is there a refund policy? Can I reschedule?

If you change your mind about trying virtual reality after you book, a full refund will be granted provided that we receive at least 48 hours of notice. If fewer than 48 hours remain until your booking, we cannot grant a full refund, but you may reschedule or arrange to receive gift cards instead. For a group of 10 or more, we require a minimum of 7 days notice for cancellations or reduction in the number of stations booked.

Call us at (647) 349-1454 if you wish to cancel or reschedule your booking.

What happens if I am late to my booking?

Due to the popularity of the arcade, booths at DiVRge are often booked back-to-back. It is important to us to run on time so that punctual customers do not have to wait to begin their sessions. Unfortunately, this means that late arrivals will miss out on some of their time. In order to ensure that you are ready to begin at the time of your booking, we recommend that you arrive ten minutes before your session begins,

Why can I only book at certain times?

Our bookings are available in 70-minute increments in order to ensure that all stations are cleaned and that all customers receive an orientation before their hour begins.

Can I wear glasses?

HTC Vive headsets are designed to be fully compatible with glasses and can be adjusted for the best fit. However, individuals with large-framed eyewear may experience difficulty or discomfort when wearing the headset over their glasses. If your prescription is less than -3.00, you will most likely not require your glasses while using the headset. If your prescription is greater than -3.00 and your glasses are bulky, we recommend wearing contacts if possible when using VR equipment.

Will I experience motion sickness while using VR?

Motion sickness arises when an individual’s visual input contradicts their body’s sense of movement. Our top-of-the-line hardware ensures that there is no lag or stuttering, reducing the likelihood that a user will experience motion sickness. However, games with unnatural movement mechanics (such as flying or gliding) may trigger motion sickness in some individuals.  If you are prone to motion sickness, alert your guide at the beginning of your session, and he or she will advise you on which games you should avoid.

I am not sure that I will be able to stand for an hour. Will I still enjoy VR?

Yes! It is OK to take breaks when you are tired. Some users prefer to sit or kneel in their booths while using the equipment, and a limited selection of games can be played while using a chair. If you require the use of a chair during your session, please contact us in advance in order to arrange for accommodations.

Will DiVRge accommodate individuals requiring disability accommodations?

We will do our best to provide accommodations whenever we can. If you have a specific concern, we ask that you contact us before making a booking in order to ensure that you have the best experience possible. Let your guide know if you are concerned about any relevant health issues including heart conditions or serious phobias.

DiVRge is optimized for individuals who are able to see, stand, read, hear, and manipulate handheld controllers. If a member of your party is unable to do one or more of these things, please contact us before booking your session.

Can VR equipment be used by someone who is pregnant?

VR is safe for pregnant individuals, and our guides are happy to help accommodate expecting mothers. However, some pregnant women may be uncomfortable standing for the length of a session, and seated play can limit an individual’s ability to interact with their virtual world. Please take these things into account when booking your session if you or a member of your party is pregnant.

One of my party members does not speak English. Will they be able to play?

All text and speech in the games offered at DiVRge is in English. Additionally, our guides are only trained to provide aid in English. Although you or another member of your party may be able to translate, a language barrier will make it more difficult to navigate the games and receive support from DiVRge’s staff members.

Can I book a birthday party or other event at DiVRge?

Yes! DiVRge has 18 stations and a party room. The party room provides a space for groups to gather, and you are welcome to bring food such as pizza or cake. Please visit our birthday parties page for more information about party/event bookings, and use this form to book your event. If you’re interested in a mobile rental (i.e. renting equipment and staff for an external event/fundraiser/party), check out our mobile rentals page.

Is DiVRge a good place to bring a date?

Absolutely! You and your date will have the opportunity to play games together, either cooperatively or against each other. Our guides can also recommend eateries and bars in the area to visit after your session.

Where can I park my car?

DiVRge has on-street parking available outside the store. Rates will vary depending on the time time and day. There is also free parking several surrounding residential streets, including Alexandra Boulevard, which is across the street from the store. Inexpensive condominium parking can be accessed using a garage entrance just north of our store on Yonge Street until 11pm.

Where are you located?

We are located on Yonge Street between Lawrence and Eglinton. If you are coming by transit, we recommend you take the subway to Lawrence Station. From there, you can either walk south (~10 minutes) or take the 97 Yonge southbound bus to Lytton Blvd.
